free concerts and a mexican fiesta!

wow, apparently i am on a cultural kick!
last weekend was definitely a highlight of the summer, so i decided i should post...
Thursday, July 17 - Twighlight concert series at Gallivan Center (free!!) was Josh Ritter and Andrew Bird...listen to their music! especially andrew bird...josh ritter was better live but he's still good. anyway, after the concert patrick, shawn and i rode tracks back to the gateway for the midnight showing of BATMAN! seriously the most terrifying movie i have seen in a long time, but i love the hype of movies like this and the midnight chaos provided by nutso fans...

Friday, July 18 - work, then a drive to provo for the Rocky Votolato concert at the Velour...this one wasn't free except for me! (i was with my best friend shawn who so kindly constantly pays for me)...before the concert we got ice cream with my roommate, alicia. it was so much fun to see her because i have not seen her since school got out and i am so excited to live with her in the fall! at the concert the opening acts were good, and while Rocky played we sat on the stage with about 3 other people and just watched him (the velour is a really small venue)...5 feet away...just staring up at him...anyway, one of shawn and my favorite activities when we go places (concerts, festivals, the mall, etc...) is people watching...i know it's horrible but we have an ongoing "team" game (i'm sure people are constantly putting shawn on their friend's teams too so it's okay) and i must say shawn is losing pretty badly, here's the back of one of his team members..

Saturday, July 19th - last week my friend mason suggested we have a surprise birthday party for our dear mexican friend, patrick...some of you may know i used to be quite the partier, so i was pretty into the idea. i'll have you know this was the first party i've planned in 7 months i think...(and no cops showed up-probably because it wasn't at my house)...anyway, we decided to go with a theme and i suggested a fiesta to support patrick's heritage...the fiesta really worked well complete with a pinata i bought at a mexican store on highway 89 (the dora decorations on it were paper plates stapled to it), fireworks, music, and plenty of chips and salsa...

speaking of hobo's, one more random story...earlier today i was at Ross dress for less with Mason and Patrick...it was ironic because one hour before this occurence i commented that patrick looked a little like a hobo today the way he was dressed...i had just come from the pool so i was all grunged down (as usual)...we were in line at the register behind these two old women when one of them dropped her change. it took me a minute to register what was going on and to respond (aka help her pick it up)...i said, "is there any left?" and she replied, "no, did you want some money? cause you can have my change." i wanted to cry but instead i just said, "no thanks, i'm good".
