The other day, Hna. Espinosa and I we walking back to our pension when a policeman motioned for us to cross the street and talk to him. I thought, great, i´m going to get deported and I´ve only been her 9 days. He asked us where we were from, why we were here, etc... I showed him a copy of my passport. meanwhile another policeman joins us. and they start asking us about being missionaries-like if we can go out dancing or on dates and stuff. then they asked us if we have pololos (boyfriends) in our countries. this conversation went on for about 5 minutes. then one of them said he wanted to come to church on sunday (he didn´t show up, surprise surprise). ha, i may not understand much spanish right now, but the language of flirting is the same no matter where you are.
I realized last week I didn´t tell you much about my sector. San Miguel is super flaite, then there´s a couple random nicer apartment buildings. other than that it´s super poor. there are gates on everything, in front of every single house, with spikes at the top--or ive seen a couple of concrete walls with broken glass cemented into the top. everyone drives crazy and if you want to pull over all you do is pull off to the side a little or clear up onto the sidewalk and turn on your flashers. i´m grateful we walk. The prison and detention center is in our sector. like i said, it´s super flaite. the elder´s pension got robbed yesterday. i think the building we live in is a bit safer but i guess we´ll find out. there was an earthquake in concepcion yesterday. we didn´t feel anything here, but apparently it was pretty big--not as big as the one last year seeing as everyone felt it here too, but i guess there was a tsunami too. i don´t know too much about it seeing as we don´t watch tv or read the newspaper. but it was weird, i guess it happened at like 5:30 and around 7:30 it got really cold. it had been super hot all day. so the only affect the earthquake had on santiago was a little climate change.
This week was a little weird. apparently i hurt my foot worse than i thought last pday playing soccer cause when i woke up on tueday i could barely walk. so we sat in the pension all day and studied. we got a little stir-crazy. especially cause we didn´t have any minutes left on our phone so we couldn´t even call anyone in the ward or to cancel appts. all we had to eat was left over mashed potatos. but then we were fine after that- we just spent half the day inside on wednesday then all was well. German accepted our baptism date! that was probably the most exciting of this week cause the rest of his family are members and have been trying really hard to work with him so they can all progress together. which means in a year i get to go through the temple with them! want to hear a sad story? so Dionicio is this guy in our ward who is probably in his 50´s but he seems a lot older. he´s been with his mother all his life, never married. and she had been sick and bedridden for about a year. we went over to their house every week to sing a hymn and chat. well we missed our appt. on wednesday cause i couldn´t walk. then in the middle of the night she passed away. hna zapata, a lady in our ward, called and told us and we went right away to the chapel. when we got there he said, "you never came yesterday. why didn´t you come? then she passed away in the night." ya, i´m i terrible person.
welp, that´s all i´ve got for now. i´ve got to go save some souls. i love you all.
hna russizzle
peace+love
