a poor wayfaring man of grief

all creatures of our god and king,
i hope you had as fabulous of a week as i did. i laughed my rear off. especially yesterday. it was testimony meeting as you all know, and also as you all know in every ward there must exist one person who goes up every single fast sunday to give a travelouge of the month before. it is an unwritten rule in lds culture. in our ward her name is laura. she got up, and bawled through the story of her fall and emergency surgery that we've heard about 3 times now (it was in december..that gave her january februrary and now march to testify about it.) then to close she said very dramatically, "i share all of this in the name of the father, the son, and the holy ghost." then walked down with her hands together across her chest. ha. for a second i thought i had accidently entered the catholic cathedral on campanario.
in principles of the gospel this week the class was all about prophets. hna. maritza gave a lovely class and we had said the closing prayer and i was talking to jorge when all of the sudden i hear someone yell. i looked up and jose (laura's husband who is not a member) was reading (yelling) some scripture from the bible that talks about how all men are frauds and false blah blah blah. so hna maritza calmly said, "that's why we need to study and pray and discover for ourselves to know if these things are true." then he starts yelling again reading some other verse about how the bible is the only book we should read. it was intense. good thing we only had one investigator (the rest were recent converts) and it was fransisco who has schizophrenia and is super sensitive, so when people start yelling he just blocks them out and ignores them.
then in the afternoon we went to visit inactive members with the ward. i went with the relief society president to visit elvira. i asked her what hymn she would like to sing before we shared our message. she said, "a poor wayfaring man of grief." i don't actually really love that hymn because it is REALLY LONG and slow. but seeing as she was the needy one in this situation i said, "ya, let's sing that". well elvira said she can't sing. and hna gladys (r.s. pres) couldn't read it cause the writing was so small. so i ended up singing all 5 verses by myself while they just listened. awesome.
then at night we went to teach maria. her grandson, diego, is a member in our ward who always helps us out and comes with us to teach. they always have their gate and door open so we walked up and i knocked the door. i saw diego walk out of the kitchen and looked out the window with nothing but his underwear on.
what a weird day and long email. welp, i just want you all to know i love more than life itself. read the scriptures. esp. the book of mormon. and follow the prophet. he won't lead you astray.
love,
kelli jean, hruss.
