hola familia.
today we moved pensions so we actually live in our sector now. which means we don´t have to walk a half a mile just to get to our sector. plus our new pension is bakan. our bathroom is huge. oh and guess what else? we have a baptism on friday! his name is marco araya. i hadn´t taught him till this week cause he was on vacations for pretty much my whole transfer. seriously, the people here take month-2 month long vacations during the summer. anyway, when i met him i saw all his beatles records in his house so i asked if her liked the beatles. he said do YOU like the beatles? i said, of course so he whipped out his guitar and started playing "blackbird". anyway, he is solid and he has the cutest family ever. i hoping i´ll get to go to the temple with them in a year!
the other day i saw a bird flying and it hit a fence and fell to the ground. so i ran up to it to see if it was okay. i thought it was a pet cause all the birds here are really ugly except for pets. so i told hna espinosa we needed to find the owner. she is afraid of all animals but is trying to face her fear. so she timidly picked it up and wasn´t holding on very tight. it started to fly off right as a car drove by. the car hit it´s side and the bird fell to the ground. we ran out into the street and the bird was still alive and not bleeding. this other man came over and picked it up and told us it´s not a pet and it´s a baby and trying to learn how to fly. welp, a week later we were walking by that same street and this lady who saw the whole thing told us the bird died the next day.
remember dionicio-the man whose mom died a day after we were supposed to visit her? well we know he smokes, so we talked to him about the word of wisdom and he said he´d quit smoking. one of our appointments fell through a few days ago, so we decided we would go visit dionicio. just as we turned the corner to his house he was walking out to sit on his front porch with a freshly lit cigarrette in his hand. he saw us and threw it behind the door and pretended he was cleaning his shoe. we walked up to his door and he walked inside to get us chairs. we could see smoke coming out from under the door-- good thing he has cement floors.
i decided i want to read the entire bible this year, so i read 8 pages every night. let me tell you, the bible is full of good stuff. scripture of the week, Genesis 27:11. i´m just thankful i have the book of mormon to turn to as well.
i love you all. i hope this finds you all happy, healthy, and cold. the reason it feels hotter here is because there is no o-zone layer in santiago cause the pollution is so bad. so the sun rays are direct. i use lots of sunscreen.
love you mucho, chao
hna. kelli jean
peace+love
