a new song

last monday was the CCU 10th Ward Talent Show... so at 6 p.m. chanell, cambria, stacy, kira and i decided to write new lyrics to the well known christmas song, "Santa Baby"...we called ourselves 3 blonds and a brunette. at 7 p.m. we wowed our ward with our mad uke skills and witty words...
introducing chanell, the only other white girl i've met (besides ingrid) that plays the uke...

doctor love

i finally went to an orthopedic surgeon for my ankle. the physician's assistant was the doctor that checked me out...(my ankle i mean)...he was very attractive, didn't have a ring, and had large biceps. he was being a little more flirty than most doctors are with me, but i thought, well maybe it's just my wishful thinking. then, this conversation...

dr. l-"cool shoes...where did you get those?"
me-"oh thanks, famous footwear. they're the only shoes i have that give me any support besides my running shoes."
dr. l-"besides your wedding shoes?!?!"
me-"no, my running shoes."
dr. l-"okay, i was going to say, i thought it said you were single on your info sheet."

but alas, he's probably too old for me...sigh...and i don't have a reason to go back because now i'm just doing physical therapy.
oh, but if i did...

a big hug to whoever get the movie reference in the post title...

kings of convenience

is my favorite boy band.
they wrote Mrs. Cold (from their latest album, Declaration of Dependence) about me.i want to make out with Erlend (the one with the glasses).
their music makes my heart melt.
and the popular "I'd Rather Dance" is the theme to my life.

there's a first for everything

so i know this is totally a cop-out to take an old photo and write about it, but i promised to keep my blog updated regularly and it's kind of fun for me, so that's the way the cookie crumbles...in case you can't tell i'm the smallest one, the cute little green m&m on the left-a costume my creative mom made (she made a red one for kerri)...then there's forrest, michelle, and cheyenne...don't ask me how i remember all of their names because this picture was taken in 1st grade and i have no idea where any of them are now...Mrs. Simon was my teacher, and i still remember on the first day of school she had everyone who was 6-years-old stand up...then everyone who was 7-years-old..."kelli, why didn't you stand up?"
"because i'm 5-years-old"
"are you sure?"
"yes...-what kind of question is that?"...
"so you're supposed to be in 1st grade"
"yes, i went to kindergarten last year"
"well let's go to the office and figure this out"...a really great way to introduce a child to her elementary years, take her to the principals office on the first day of first grade (it was not the last time)...first grade was full of significant firsts:
  • i lost my first tooth...it was right before lunch and my tooth was very loose...i didn't want to eat lunch because i was afraid my tooth would fall out while i was eating and i'd swallow it...i was in the hall crying when mrs. simon came out and pulled it all the way out for me...it was the only one i didn't pull by myself...i still have that tooth..
  • the first time i had to write sentences...i honestly don't remember why, but this was devastating to me because recess was definitely the best part of the day and i had to miss it...i had written maybe two sentences when mrs. simon came in and said, "the 2nd grade hall needs someone for hall duty. if you do it you don't have to write sentences" Seriously?!?! hall duty was a privilege for anyone, and 1st graders NEVER got to do it! and i got out of a disciplinary action for a luxurious task any child would be envious of...
  • my first kiss...travis christensen was one of my best friends...he lived just down the street from me, so we stayed friends throughout our elementary years (i was always the only girl at his birthday parties)...one rainy day frankie larsen, travis, and i decided to stay in from recess to play in the classroom...frankie decided to kiss travis for whatever reason...and i thought well if frankie can kiss him, then i should...i always seemed to get into the most trouble/do the dumbest things when i was with frankie...
  • the first (and only) snowday in 13 years of school...my brother scott, was in 6th grade when i was in 1st, so we went to school together...one morning we woke up to a couple of feet of snow...we watched the news as we ate breakfast, only to discover school was canceled that day! we were so excited that i ran to the backyard and jumped into the snow in my pj's (which consisted on an oversized t-shirt and my underwear)...i don't remember if scott did too, but something tells me he was a little smarter than that

i will bore you no longer with a meaningless (to you) list of firsts, but if you have any firsts from first grade you remember please share them in the comments...
