somewhere O.V.E.R. the rainbow

that's right...finals are o-v-e-r, over! well, technically i have a final at three today, but it's my climbing class...which consists of climbing, setting up an anchor, and rappelling myself down. can you say fun final? oxy-moron, but not today! now that the semester is over, it's time for the
-highlights of spring semester 2010-
{in no particular order}
-getting ruby-
-finding paulie bleeker-
-discovering mumford and sons-
-spring skiing-
-c.a.l.i.f.o.r.n.i.a.-
-free dinners thursday nights at the episcopal church (what i affectionately call "episcopal dinner"). thanks rev. sue and congregation!-
-final season of LOST...sayid is going to break my heart and desmond is going to mend it-
-late night chat on the roof...what roof? the music building-
-camping out on said roof-
-living 45 minutes from zion national park-
-the pastry pub ...the only pub that doesn't actually sell alcohol-
-earning an almond rocha from my voice teacher-
-fabulous friends....seriously, fabulous-
-"so runs the world away" don't worry, i'm listening to it right now for the 5th time this week-

and during my summer of fun i'll be living in the college turned tourist town cashiering at cafe rio in the evening (where they call me "mamasita") and baking sweets at great harvest in the morning (as in before the sun comes up).

guess what? i'm human.

this week has been full of a mixture of emotions....stress, melancholy, sadness all jumbled in with happiness, giddiness, and euphoria. that's a lot to handle in one week. but intstead of discouraging you with details of my car problems, computer broken, failing a test, {worst cramps ever-tmi, i know} etc. etc. etc. i will dwell on the tales of happiness. for example:

-great friends. i have the best friends. they let me vent to them, keep me company, and make me smile. you know who you are--i love you guys. and will miss you immensely.-
-i won an almond rocha for my accompanist and i in my voice lesson this week...oh my teacher was on one but she doesn't make me cry anymore. she makes me laugh.-
-i've been wearing shorts all week...at least it starts out that way...then by about 4 it starts snowing...-
-the sun is shining today. which is good because today is "One Day Without Shoes". and that could get pretty miserable if there was snow on the ground.-
-i made dark chocolate brownies last night-
-um, right now if you are not a fan of LOST i feel very sorry for you. because the episode this week was beyond amazing and full of DESMOND DESMOND DESMOND! with a little sayid at the end...perfect-
-"having fun isn't hard when you've got a library card!" {click it, i dare you} i got a library card this week. it has dinosaurs on it. and i checked out a 750 page book of sherlock holmes' adventures. hours and hours of entertainment...for FREE!-
-today i'm listening to Mumford & Sons. what more do i need?-
welp, this is the longest post i've written in a while..and i've got to go repelling for my climbing class..pray i don't die. i love climbing. repelling frightens me, a lot. here i go to conquer my fears.
so, until tomorrow...

sharing my bed
inviting me to backpack europe
and being my source of sanity for the last 4 days of the trip

my favorite christmas present ever aka chocolate soy and jr. mints
bringing my other favorite roommate to visit me in cedar
being a mutual friend with ingrid michaelson
and jim bianco...and cary brothers...we're cool
participating in my spontaneous ideas
really understanding my taste in men
having a great (similar) taste in music

staying up late to watch LOST
being a fan of my music
loving me for me
i mean really...what kind of friend leaves these kinds of notes on my bed/table along with a box of jr. mints?
"My dearest Kelli..
good luck on your finals this week! When you are done you can run away with me to a deserted island forever... love Sayid"

there aren't many people who really know me better
congratulations to the soon to be

the beginning of the end

no, i am NOT talking about 2012 and all the hype around the end of the world. i'm talking depressing ending stuff. i'm talking the final season of LOST. what am i supposed to watch when it's over? guess i'll just quit tv altogether. and if you haven't seen the first 5 seasons just listen to this song by my girl Ingrid and you'll get all the info you need.

goodbye quasimodo

the day before thanksgiving, my family had a "pre-holiday party"...aka deep clean the house. i was working at my old job that morning and unable to attend. a day later, i opened our game closet only to find all of our disney vhs' were gone. snow white, sleeping beauty, cinderella, oliver and company, beauty and the beast, even the hunchback of notre dame were all missing! all the classics. when i inquired as to their whereabouts, i was informed my family had taken them all to D.I. when i expressed anger about this dark deed i was told, "that's what you get for not being here to clean."

fast forward (vhs style) to today

i went to D.I. to get some holiday garb for an ugly sweater party tonight. as i walked up to the checkout line, i heard the man in front of me say to the cashier, "yes, these'll give my daughter endless hours of happiness." i looked at the counter to see what he was buying. to my horror, i saw 10 of my old disney movies. as i watched my childhood slip away, bar code by bar code, it was all i could do to keep myself from grabbing the videos and running for the door. my hands were twitching, then i remembered i'm not very quick on my feet right now.
i suppose it is the season of sacrifice.
i just hope that girl appreciates the pot of gold her father is giving her this christmas.

unrequited love

my mother gave me this counsel today:
"be patient with those who are not as astute about worldly knowledge as you"
(please note this is NOT referring to my visiting teaching companion, but is, in fact, referring to someone completely unrelated)

my question for her (and any other readers) is:
when it comes to building a relationship is it actually patience i am lacking?
because the fact is,
what the heck are we supposed to talk about when we're stuck indoors for more than an hour and alas the topic of hunting has put me to sleep?

i wish i was the moon

i am fascinated by the moon...one of my favorite activities is "night sitting"...this consists of sitting outside at night, listening to music, talking, enjoying the weather,  but most of all taking in the scenery in the celestial sphere above--that scenery (usually) consists of stars and the moon...a friend and i were talking about different songs about the moon, and i came up with the ultimate night sitting playlist (however, i am always open to suggestions)

i wish i was the moon - neko case
moonshadow - cat stevens
moon and sun - gomez
bad moon rising - creedence clearwater revival
moondance - van morrison
sleeping to dream - jason mraz
dream - priscilla ahn
bella luna - jason mraz
virginia moon - foo fighters
shoot the moon - norah jones
constellations - jack johnson
moon river - ben e. king
blue moon - michael buble
fly me to the moon - stan getz, joao gilberto
what a little moonlight can do - billie holiday
it's only a paper moon - ella fitzgerald
how high the moon - ella fitzgerald
moons - josh ritter
pink moon - nick drake
a kiss to build a dream on - louis armstrong
moonlight sonata - beethoven

lets get LOST!

so i know i said i'd do better at updating my blog and i haven't done well...but i update the political one twice a week so i don't really have that much to say...i pretty much speak my mind there...all i have to say is i am ready for school to be over and it's the 3rd week. that is bad. very bad. but in the mean time i'm trying to make the most of what could possibly be my last semester at BYU...for example
LOST SEASON 5 PREMIERS TOMORROW!!!!

and i am in class till 9:30 p.m...bluhg...luckily, my friend who also loves lost has tivo...last semester during finals i got a little note with a box of jr. mints one day. the note said "kelli, i cannot wait till finals are over so we can run away to a deserted island together forever. Love, Sayid"...oh how i love him...we decided to wait till i finish school though, you know, just in case

in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. (and a much needed day off!) a couple of friends and i drove to Zions National Park for a day to enjoy PERFECT weather and hang out on the edge of cliffs (as pictured above-sorry i don't have one of all 3 of us)...after hiking we drove to st. george for in-n-out burger where it was so warm we sat outside to eat! then listened to bob dylan (much to everyone else's dismay...i felt it was appropriate)...and we listened to the song "MLK" by U2...

i don't have any pictures, but i got to spend an exciting weekend with my family (i'm sure brooke will write about it)...it was so much fun being with my them, even in crappy flat tire situations-which turned out great that the car was towed to orem because today i got a free dinner and my groceries paid for compliments of my dad! he's so great!...and since i don't really like to play video games i think i got to hold jonah the most while everyone played the Wii...

i feel like i should end with a joke or witty line, but i've got nothing...
