i'll come out smiling like a snowman in a blizzard

wow, january is nearly over...i'm really glad it's leaving in better conditions than it came in. so far i'm doing pretty okay with my new years resolutions.  actually, i'm doing awesome on my biggest resolution.  like, so awesome.  perhaps someday i'll tell you about it...it's one of those inner battles with those debilitating demons in your head.  those demons are currently getting their butts kicked.

in the meantime, enjoy some january highlights:
brennan got back from the break january 2nd and we spent the last couple days living it up before crunch time...

because we're such classy, cool cats, we love nickel city.
he worked me in almost every game we played.

we danced our little hearts out and had more fun than just about anyone at sydnee and david's wedding.  really though, i think syd and her new husband were the only one's having more fun than us.

then we hiked our little hearts out up big springs.
with no new snow we saw plenty of large animal prints frozen in the snow...
and some really beautiful views.

with the new semester i had to hit the ground running.  between a promotion at my job and serving as relief society president, the first week of school left little room to breathe.  luckily, brennan was gone that whole week at med school interviews..i mean, i was sad he was gone, but glad.  you know what i mean.  but since then, we've made time for some more fun...

again, brennan worked me.
this time in bowling.
the only thing i beat him at were the granny shots

spent mlk weekend at the cabin hanging out with three 14-year-old girls.
we had a ton of fun sledding and goofing around in the snow with them.

and now it's the month of love
and we fully intend to start it out right--
thank heavens for this new snow the last couple of days...
snowbird, here we come.

viva méxico

it's oficial....
Friday, September 13, 2013 this half chilena half north american is going to become half mexicana, too.  that sounds impossible, i know... i guess my heart will just have to grow to fit all those mexicans in it.  i'll be moving to Mexico D.F. until December 11 to go prepare the Lord's servants in the newest MTC opening this summer.  there are no words to describe the extreme range of emotions i am feeling right now...so i will express them with a song
you may or may not ever see me again.  there is the distinct possibility that i will o.d. on tacos.

risky business

you know you've all done it at least once...
there is this cute boy at work i have a crush on.  i have no idea if he is engaged or has a girlfriend.  but i do know he doesn't have a wedding ring, and that's all that matters.  anyway, this crush is a pretty recent development, and i'll admit, until now i haven't put forth much effort when it comes to getting ready for work.   then today i decided i would start to work it... i wore my cutest dress, i put on some makeup, flat ironed my hair, and even put on a little perfume.  i looked cute and smelled good.
and he wasn't even there today.
fail.
i wouldn't mind so much and say, "oh well, i'll just try again tomorrow" except that now that means i can't wear my cutest dress again for at least a week.

okay, now this could be fun...what's the craziest thing you've ever done to get someone's attention?

long days of summer...

i cannot believe it's already july 22nd...before i know it i'll be cooped up in the hbll reading one of the bajiliion books i'll have to read between my 3 english classes and spanish writing and reading class.  boo. so, i'm just filling my days with all the outdoor fun stuff i possibly can....kind of like how chipmunks gather as much food as they possibly can.
-night swimming
-lots and lots of bike rides.  long ones, short ones, uphill, downhill, fast, slow.
-floating down the provo river
-more bike rides
-red rocks brandi carlile concert...i die of happiness...and pot
-roasting mallows
-hiking
-more biking
-more swimming
-lots of working...but have i told you how much i LOVE both of my jobs?
have a happy summer
p.s.  my cute auntie stephanie is due for chemo tomorrow...if you could remember her in your prayers tonight and tomorrow morning we'd all really appreciate it.

entropy

i love my job.  i get to learn new stuff everyday.  like physics.
today's lesson...
entropy=the measurement of molecular disorder and the amount of wasted energy...
the second law of thermodynamics pretty much says that in natural systems entropy will increase unless acted upon by some outside force.
this is my artistic interpretation of entropy
i suppose the second law of thermodynamics explains the increasing entropy in my life....
in other words, i need another job.

what can i say?

...i'm so sad since you went away.

i am such a zoobie...

urban dictionary says:  A term used in Utah, mainly Utah Valley, to describe the excited bunch of mormons that go to BYU and engage in excessive social activities. (there was another definition that was a bit more derogatory and a little less true in my circumstances...plastic? i think not...)

in the last week and a half i have:

-been to a fireside about dating and eternal marriage
-hiked up to the y at night several times
-drawn on the sidewalk with chalk outside my front door
-done free laser tagging
-ridden my bike all over town
-not starved thanks to the so charitable donations some call "dates"
-discovered the hidden beauty of american fork canyon
-oh, and friday i have a "blind date"
....i was slightly dreading moving back to provo, but i must say, zoobie summer life ain't so bad after all. plus, i love my job...

overworked and underpaid

yesterday my sister informed me my eyebrows needed to be plucked.
i also missed out on a perfectly windy day of kite flying.

but, on a more positive note...
tonight, i was taking my dog for a walk after dark. i kept picturing bo radley following me.
i got a little nervous, so i hummed "long shadows" to myself.
nothin' like the sweet sound of josh ritter to make you feel better.
(it also helps that bo radley is actually a good guy who saved scout and jem from an untimely death by the knife of the town drunk...)

p.s./btw my birthday is in a week. i'm $66 away from my goal of $210 to charity:water. if you have not yet donated or told a friend to donate, you have until friday!

young hate

cedar city hates me:
i could barely wait. last night was like christmas eve, only better. it took me two hours to fall asleep and i woke up on my own at 6 a.m... because today i would climb for the first time since october 21st. it had been too long. far too long.

a friend and i walked down to the suu gym and went to get our harnesses when the worker informed us that {of course} the climbing wall was closed that day because they couldn't get any of the outdoor center people to work. i have to wait till monday.

curses.

the make-yourself-feel-better while kelzone is the butt-of-your-joke-for-today post

since my mom was kind enough in her post about me to NOT embarrass me, i thought i'd give you some sort of insight into the daily embarrassing occurrences which i tend to shrug off and laugh at myself for...when you can laugh at yourself life becomes so much easier and a little less humiliating...anyway, here goes:
from 12-12:30 there is no one in the comp. pool except a couple of lap swimmers. so the two guards occassionally have conversations through our megaphones...well, yesterday jen and i were doing just that. we both looked down and saw a man floating there on his back completely limp. we laughed cause it looked really funny, but when he didn't move after about 15 seconds we started to get a little nervous. i got down from the guard chair and jen stood in hers. the man was floating toward the lane line, so i decided if his head hit the lane line and he didn't react that i would take action. well, he didn't even move a muscle and my heart started pounding. jen started yelling "sir! sir!" and i jumped in--well, i wasn't holding the slack of the guard tube so it wrapped around the ladder and i had to swim back and get it...then i swam to the man, and right when i got to him he moved. i said "are you okay sir?" he said, "oh, sorry, ya i was just relaxing." when he got out we noticed he had ear plugs in his ears.
as if that wasn't embarrassing enough...there are windows from the workout room above that look down on the comp pool. when i walked out to my car after work i had a text message from my friend jenelyn that said "Hey good job in the pool today! Way to be on top of things...too bad that guy didn't really need saving:) love ya" (ya, thanks for the "love ya" part jen)- that means people actually saw it.
then today during swimming lessons my friend nalu thought it would be funny to have all of his students jump in the lane below and pretend like they were passive drowning victims...hilarious
as long as i'm embarrassing myself, this is the only time you'll ever see me in a cheer uniform

strange dreams and not-so-random (or reverent) thoughts on life

i am now officially a certified lifeguard...despite ending mid-sentence in a conversation with someone to go save a victim DURING my test (yes, i was talking to a very attractive boy) i passed with flying colors! if you are swimming and fear the risk of drowning, no worries you will not drown on my watch! anyway, amidst all this lifeguard stuff i had this crazy dream last night: i was directing a choir and my old teacher (mr h) started getting mad at me for something-i do not know why he was there...then i was guarding a giant pool late at night that was like 17 feet deep and i had to rescue 4 people, 2 of which are guards at the rec center, sarah (my best friend), and an ex-boyfriend...weird...is there anyone out there that knows how to interperet dreams cause i could really use some enlightenment on this one...

speaking of all this guard stuff i have to wear shorts or a swimsuit all the time and everyone knows how i love shaving my legs...they were getting pretty bad so i decided to try waxing them thinking i'd only have to do it like twice this summer...BAD IDEA...anyway, i bought a nair self-waxing kit and tried a little on my thigh before actually doing it to see what kind of affect it would have on my skin...it wasn't too bad and by the next day all the red marks were gone...so then tonight i decided to go all the way...now i am typing this with greasy cream on my legs and some of my pores feeling like they're on fire and looking like a bad case of chicken pox...therefore, my legs will just have to be visibly hairy for a week and a half every month since i refuse to shave my legs more than once a month...moral of the story: go the professional waxing routethis will be me by the end of the summer

i just wanted to throw this out there for all non-runners...as adam sandler famously stated, "peein' your pants is cool"...just so you know peeing your pants is a completely normal (sometimes frequent) thing for runners...why would someone trying to improve their endurance want to stop and go to the bathroom resulting in a lowered heart rate that just takes time to get back up again? not worth it...besides it dries eventually and due to modern conveniences we've been so blessed with you simply throw them in the washing machine and -SHAZAM!- clean shorts!
congrats to sar wads on graduating from high school! i'm so so proud of my desperado sister! and our other desperado heart katie gets home in just 26 days (yes i am counting)! with her in ecuador and sar in school my social life has been pretty lame and i truly miss my partner-in-crime! that's pretty much the update on my summer- just getting tanner and blonder everyday that i wait for june 27th!
