25 August 2014

a trolls paradise.

the craziest things seem to happen in the middle of the night when i am deeply sleeping.
like last night...well, this morning, i guess.
it was about 4:30 a.m. when i woke up to brennan thrashing around hitting his leg and moving both legs up and down like he was either trying to get rid of a bug or a charlie horse.  then he sat up in bed and started rubbing his calf.  then he stood up at the foot of the bed and started jumping around like he was dancing.  i asked him what was wrong and if he was okay, but he just kept dancing around.  finally, he got out, "yea, it's just a giant spider"
"you had a spider on your leg?"
"no"
"then what was it?"
he stuck his hand out with his fingers up like he was trying to describe a dead spider to me...
"i don't know...it was one of those huge spiders.  they're really friendly and they live forever."
"yeaaaa...you're not really awake"
i kissed him on the forehead and rolled over to try and fall asleep again.  which was made difficult by me laughing and feeling slightly paranoid about the possibility of there being a spider in our bed.
man, i wish i had a video of this whole thing.  i laugh every time i remember it.

anyway, we got to spend saturday exploring hocking hills.
and, boy am i glad we did.
that expression was pretty much glued to my face the entire time.
it was not like hiking in utah.
there were no big climbs.
practically no elevation gain.
but it was unlike anything i'd ever seen.
trees grow on rocks
everything is covered in moss
a soft mist hangs above every body of water
and the humidity invites all kinds of critters

i could get used to this ohio thing.

don't mind the crappy phone pictures.  someday i'll own a nice camera.  if you know my history with nice cameras, that will probably happen once i prove i can keep another human alive.

just another manic monday...

-sunday night bedtime=9:45 p.m.-
-fell asleep at 11(ish)-
-woke up at 12:30-
-asked roommate and boy to keep it down...boy says, "you hate me, don't you?" oh, i'm sorry, i didn't realize we were 5-years-old-
-back to sleep-
-woke up at 1:25-
-back to sleep-
-woke up at 2:30-
-back to sleep-
-woke up at 3:13-
-back to sleep-
-woke up at 3:15-
-got dressed-
-changed my shirt 3 times-
-left for work at 3:30-
-arrived at work at 3:42 wishing i were wearing different pants...seriously?-
-baked and baked and baked (well, trained, really)-
-awkwardly discover two of my co-workers at great harvest are an item...who kisses at work unless you're an actor or prostitute? and even then, if you're julia roberts, you don't.-
-home by 9:30 a.m.-
-back to sleep-
-phone call at 11 a.m. from convergys-
-"my phone's echoing, can i call you back?"-
-"it's still echoing, maybe you should try calling me."-
{maybe i should tell him it's my phone}
-"it's still echoing. let me try one more thing."-
{really, i'd like to be asleep right now...please hurry}
-"okay, nothing is working. i guess i'll just see how this goes"-
-reject job offer-
-back to sleep-
-up again at 12:30 p.m.-
-ew, i can smell myself--off to the school gym to shower. our gas got turned off.-
-watch LOST. {spoiler alert spoiler alert} NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT SAYID AND JIN AND SUN! I DIE!-
-go to the gym...watch silence of the lambs while i'm on the elliptical-
-regret watching silence of the lambs while doing sit-ups-
-and while in the shower (yes, i showered before and after the gym. don't judge me)-
-and while changing-
-periodically (or obsessively) glance over my shoulder all the way out to the car-
-ride to the movies with co-worker. hear about new roommate who has a parole officer...is that weird to anyone else but me? (no comments from you, jen and aubry)-
-hear more tales of the craziness that exists between all of my co-workers (not at great harvest...other job)-
-feel more convinced of the need to find a different second job-
-slightly regret rejecting convergys job offer-
-then i remember the sucky hours-
-regret=gone-
-watch iron man II with co-worker-
-enjoying myself-
-1/3 into the movie, NOT enjoying myself-
{this dialogue is almost as bad as star wars}
-3/4 through the movie, enjoying myself again-
{um, can i please be ScarJo in this movie?}

23 April 2010

neko and john make a music baby and my future career was born

i am exhausted but classes are OVER. hallelujah. plus this is my favorite fill in the blank friday yet.
1. One song that always
takes me back to my youth is
anything by neil diamond or van morrisson...or just South of the Border. my grandpa used to sing it to me when he'd put me to bed .

2. My first concert ever was i don't know. but the first concert i remember was "Riders in the Sky" at Red Butte Garden. my dad LOVES them. and that is an understatement .

3. If I could create my dream music festival I'd want these bands to be there: oh that list could go on forEVER. but i will say, i would absolutely die of happiness if John Mayer+Neko Case and Josh Ritter+Brandi Carlile made music babies onstage. .

4. The best make-out/"boot knocking" song ever is i've only ever made out to one song- "the nearness of you" by norah jones. waaaaaaaaaaaaay sappy, i know. and the boy kinda ruined the song for me .

5. The best concert I've ever been to was baaaaahhhh, too many--Neko Case cause that's where i first heard her and i just am in love with her, Damien Rice the 2nd time i saw him (you want to talk true love?), Josh Ritter- hands down happiest person to be onstage and SO dang cute, Ingrid Michaelson the 1st time i saw her--back when she was poor and could only afford to have ali moss backing her up.
best concert i've never been to: brandi carlile (july 11th, red butte garden!), mumford and sons...please please please please come to utah!
.

6. A memorable musical moment for me was last year in BYU women's chorus we sang this arrangement of "Psalm 23" (the lord is my shepherd) that was so unbelievably beautiful. i cried everytime we performed it except the nights my parents came. i even cried through rehearsal.
also, no one will find this funny except aubry and brooke..."me, my yoke, and i" damien rice concert.
.

7. The song on my iPod that's getting the most play these days is "Change of Time" from Josh Ritter's album that comes out in a week and a half. if the rest of the album is half as good as this song i will vow celibacy and enter a convent until josh decided to marry me. but actually not cause i wouldn't want him to leave his cute wife .

28 March 2010

happiness is...

...a relaxing weekend
which =
very little (but at least i did some) homework
zion with my dear friend to hike and take in the grandeur that is southern utah
running into the amazing jessica on the emerald pools hike
ol' faithful explosion in the car
coming home exhausted and starving
which resulted in banana+nutella crepes by same friend
(which i've been craving since, oh i don't know, um, tuesday)
patsy cline--there has never been and never will be a country girl like patsy
falling asleep at 8 p.m.
only to wake up less than 2 hours later
watching (falling asleep to) into the wild
soaking up the sun with a good book and some headphones
chatting it up with my awesome visiting teacher and friend whom i adore and admire
wrote a silly song with friends
and church

honestly, i could listen to those first two notes over and over again...

my grandpa IVon used to sing this while tucking me into bed
.

what did you do this weekend?

i ain't sayin' she's a gold digger

apparently the powers that be at hotmail.com caught wind of the secret that i actually date guys for their money... you know those ads you get on the side of your screen? ya, mine says "Romance a millionaire: Date millionaire men who are looking for classy women. Join MeetingMillionaires for free. You deserve the best!"

1. The best day ever was i don't know..any day when my family is happy and kind to each other--probably the night last summer my family sat out on our deck laughing, talking, having a dance off, my brother telling the "city of north salt lake" to "live long and prosper" in his jammer .

2. My favorite meal of the day is breakfast because i feel like this encompasses all meals because if i could i would eat breakfast for every meal .

3. This weekend i get to see my dad and my grandpa and my mom and my sisters and my nephew and my brother and my friends and i don't even have to think about going to school on monday or doing homework cause it is SPRING BREAK! .

4. Never in my life have I ever had a bike that i didn't want to ride (virtual kiss on the cheek to whoever can name that song) .

5. The only thing better than thinking of nothing while listening to a good song is thinking of nothing while listening to a good song with bose headphones or speakers .

6. I could really do with some more sleep .

7. The most recent thing I bought myself was a dr. pepper .

31 October 2009

double-odd day

10/31-Halloween:
"is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."
NOT my favorite holiday
nope...not even close

11/01-daylight savings:
the one night a year when we all get to sleep an extra hour.
closer to my favorite holiday

what would you do if you had one extra hour completely to yourself everyday?

i'd make playlists....lots and lots of playlists

not to brag or anything.....

...but my dad could beat up your dadit's true
my dad is a genius, great skier, an incredibly hard worker, a cyclist, loyal, kinda tone deaf but awesome supporter of the arts (including mine), he was even the lead in the play at Valley High once upon a time--he spoils his children almost as much as his grandson and his old best friend, Argus the standard poodle...
there's no guy greater than the best dad in the worldhappy birthday padre!

a story

once upon a time, whilst wandering through the vast landscape of fred meyer (smith's marketplace for you noobs) i found a tent...the tent was simple- 2 man, small fly, easily assembled, and a mere $15...too perfect to pass up this purchase...a couple weeks later i saw the tent laying on my floor completely virgin-unused, unopened, untouched...do not doubt i did think to take advantage of this opportunity...5 minutes later it became my fort within my fort...i moved in bringing with me a good book, my i pod, my ukulele, and a pillow...and there i have been for about two weeks...
